That story is here. This is the update.

Monkey got her eyes checked. She was nervous at first but the doctor was amazing and she had fun. After the exam she got to pick out her frames. She tried on about seven or eight pairs of frames. She finally picked out a cute pair. About 2 weeks later she had her glasses. She has been very good about wearing them every day. They haven't been lost or broken. She is absolutely in love with them. Her friends and teachers think they are great too.

I won't lie, I was nervous and scared for her. As it turns out... I didn't need to be.

Bear lost his job back in September. Since then, we have been trying to make ends meet on my small paychecks. We decided that the best thing to do would be for Bear to go back to school full time and get his degree. When he gets his degree, he will be able to get a job with better pay (hopefully) and things will get better.

OK, now that the history lesson is over... lets get back to the point. We need to save money. One of my friends at work does couponing. Bear and I decided even if it saves a couple of bucks at a time it is better than nothing.

We got a printer (for other reasons too) and started following a couple of websites and started printing coupons from online sources. We started buying the Sunday paper and clipping coupons. It has been an awesome experience so far. Both of us cut. I organize and document the coupon info into excel. Bear makes the lists and I do the shopping.

We have made 4 very successful trips. Fry's has been doing Mega Deal week this last 2 weeks. Buy ten items on their sale list and get $0.50 extra off each item. Between that sale, the customer rewards card, and the coupons we have paid only $32.74 for $187.37 worth of groceries. We have not bought anything we would not already buy. We have stocked up on salsa, Kleenex, caprisun, and boxed rice dinners.

I was nervous at first to hand over so many coupons and hold up the line. I thought for sure I was guilty of something. There was no way our plan could work. Now after having done it a few times, I am more confident. It is fun watching the numbers just drop off. Spending $5.51 on a normally $45 purchase, or spending $1.31 on a $12 purchase is just amazing. Seeing the disbelieving looks on the faces of the cashier and people in line behind you is fun too.

I always thought coupons were silly. I have to say that I am now a believer. It has changed the way I look at and approach grocery shopping.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-6002436691473781062013-01-07T08:00:00.000-08:002013-01-07T08:00:04.595-08:00Gamer RageI play video games. I have for years. I used to play a lot of RPG's. Mostly final fantasy. Then I played MMORPGs for years. After having kids, I could not put aside the time to play video games for hours on end without being interrupted. I have moved to playing first person shooters. My game of choice at the moment is Modern Warfare 3. One of my PS3 controllers is on the fritz. If you move it the wrong way, it will randomly open menus and click things. If I am in game, it will jump, change guns, or shoot without me wanting it to. This fantastic controller has caused me to Rage on more than one occasion.

I am not proud of it, but I swear and yell a lot when I play video games. Unfortunately for me... Bug has picked up on this habit of mine.

Last week I got home from work. I sat down and played Portal 2 for about 15 minutes. I then left the game on the menu screen and went to make dinner. Bug grabbed the controller and started pushing buttons. Somehow she managed to start a level. I heard her yelling from the front room. I looked into the front room and saw her:

Controller in her hands
Angry concentration look on her face.

Then I heard it... "Damn! Damn! Damn it! F*ck you!"

She put the controller down, balled up her fists, and yelled at the TV some more.

She saw that I was watching her. She looked at me with a big smile and said "I play video games like momma!"

It took everything I had not to burst into laughter and tears while watching her. She had the biggest look of accomplishment on her face for being just like mommy. I guess I know what needs to happen next. I need to adjust the way I react to my games. I don't need a little 2 year rage gamer. I am going to have enough trouble with her when she gets older.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-90255425208275334082013-01-06T08:00:00.000-08:002013-01-06T08:00:01.900-08:00Super HelperYesterday just after lunch I decided that I needed to go out and get the back yard cleaned up. Dog likes to go out and kick up the rocks while she barks at the neighbor's dogs. Our whole back yard is rocks, so when she kicks up or digs up a spot, it is a glaring dirt hole in the middle of a sea of rocks. Plus we have Dog, and the backyard is Dog's toilet. I wanted to go even out the rocks, rake the weeds, and clean up the dog poop.

I went outside and started raking. Monkey came out to hang out with me. Bear told her that if she was going to be out there with me, that she needed to help me. Monkey picked up the child size rake that we have and started helping me rake the rocks over to cover the dirt spots. She never once complained or whined about having to clean up with me. She actually told me that it was more fun to do yard work with me than it was to clean the den alone.

I was surprised that she would rather do yard work. Cleaning up the den involves putting laundry in the hamper, trash in the trash can, and toys in the rooms. The backyard actually requires work... And yet she was perfectly happy to hang out and do the work with me without complaint. It made me happy to spend the time with her and that it was less work that I had to do. She's a good kid and she makes me proud.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-84375589189184503472013-01-05T14:33:00.000-08:002013-01-05T14:33:32.086-08:00Curiousity BugBug has been working on her communication a lot lately. she is now speaking in full sentences, and having complete conversations. Lately she has been very curious about sounds and noises.

"What make dat noise?"

Every time Bug hears a noise she asks that question. Most of the time she knows the answer, but sometimes she actually doesn't. The light in her eyes when she pops up her head and listens to whatever noise her little bug ears pick up is amazing.

Trucks, kids, dogs, noisy stomachs, video games, flushing toilets, and a million other sounds have piqued her interest. My little Bug with the supersonic ears and the deepest curiosity that a two year old can have.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-4554694717567962422012-12-19T08:00:00.000-08:002012-12-19T08:00:10.616-08:00Mommy's CupBug is two years old. It is still not 100% safe to give her a regular cup. She also still requests her cup with her at bed time. She still uses sippy cups. Or as she calls them "see-pee" cups.

This last week at work I won a raffle and won a coffee mug and a glass jar full of tea. 88 teabags. I have never seen so much tea in my life (other than at the grocery store). Anywho... this coffee mug that I won is a travel mug. It is a big, bright purple mug with a screw on lid.

When I got home from work with my mug, Bug grabbed it and ran over to Bear.

"Poppa! Mom's see-pee cup! Mom's purple see-pee cup!"

She then ran down the hall, got her green sippy cup and showed them both to me. She was so excited that we both have sippy cups. She also pointed out the fact that mine was purple and hers was green. Also, mine is bigger (because I am bigger than her).

But really... how exciting is that?? We have matching cups!Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-35356558357410089062012-12-18T08:00:00.000-08:002012-12-18T08:00:11.602-08:0024 Years Later...I was going through pictures of the girls today. We are "storing" some of their stuff. One of the things that we currently have is a fire pit for the backyard. A few weeks ago we had some friends over to hang out, enjoy some drinks, and warm up by the fire. Monkey was completely taken with the fire. She sat and chatted with our friends. They were both completely amazed by her mature conversation.

The following weekend Monkey asked if we could do a fire again. We got some firewood from my parents and lit the fire. In order to keep the girls a safe distance from the fire, I laid down a blanket. They got their blankies and pillows and snuggled up to lay by the fire.

It was relaxing and fun. It was nice to spend some time as a family. It wasn't camping, but it was the next best thing. It also made me realize that I haven't been camping in YEARS. Bear hasn't been camping in slightly fewer years. And as sad as it is... my kids have NEVER been camping. I think that needs to be remedied. I know Monkey would be a little princess and dislike the dirty part of camping. And Bug would be more than happy to run off into the woods with the animals and bugs. It would be a learning experience for all of us though, thats for sure.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-38078904207785790922012-12-16T08:00:00.000-08:002012-12-16T08:00:01.080-08:00It's A DateMonkey and I went to a birthday party for her best friend at school. Friend's mom and I were talking. She told me a funny story.

Earlier in the week, her daughter brought home a piece of paper with five numbers on it and Monkey's name. She gave it to her mom and said that it was Monkey's number. Her mom was confused. It didn't look like an address, and there was not enough numbers for it to be a phone number. Her daughter insisted it was still Monkey's number and they are supposed to meet at Monkey's house to play.

During our conversation, the mother told me the numbers. 12345*. I just laughed. That was our house number. Monkey had given her friend our house number (no street) and told her to come over and play. They had it all worked out. They just had to figure out how to get the friend to our house.

If this is any indication of how things will go as she gets older, I am going to be a very busy mom.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-66777006395645901542012-12-15T10:36:00.000-08:002012-12-15T10:36:52.326-08:00Monkey MIARecently we started having Monkey ride the bus to and from school. The bus stop is one short block to the south and two long blocks to the east. On day one of riding the bus, Bear walked Monkey down to the bus stop. She realized that she had friends from the neighborhood to ride the bus with. Everything went well. She got on the bus went to school and had a great day.

Bear had finals that Monday and couldn't get home in time to pick her up from the bus stop. I took a half day so that I could make sure to be at the bus stop to pick her up after school. Bug and I walked down the street and waited. The bus came. The bus went. Monkey didn't get off at our stop. When she didn't get off I asked the bus driver, he said he thought she got off at the last stop. Bug and I walked down the street.... No Monkey.

I grabbed Bug and booked it back home. I jumped in the car and sped down the street. I crawled up and down streets looking for her. There was not a single child on the street anywhere. Instantly, my mind went to the deep dark basements, and the ditches on the side of the freeway. I called Bear, but he didn't answer. I called my mom. She offered to come help look. I didn't know what else to do. In case of emergency... Call Your Mommy.

After 20 minutes of panic and tears driving around my neighborhood, I got a phone call from the school. They had Monkey. I raced over to the school as fast as I could drive safely. Monkey, and an old man were walking up to the office as I got there. It took everything I had to thank the gentleman without bursting into tears. I gathered her and Bug up and whisked them away home. Safe and sound. Thank goodness.

What had happen was....

Monkey got off at the wrong stop. She was walking around the wrong little pocket neighborhood. A man saw her and asked her if she was lost. She said she couldn't find me or her house. The man went to another neighbor and asked him (the elderly man) to help her since he was in the middle of a landscaping job and couldn't help. The old man asked her where her house was. She told him the house number, but didn't know her street. They drove around a little bit looking for "a house with candy canes" that is near our house. The man asked her what school she went to, and he called the school, told them he had her, and drove her back to school. That's when I got the call.

That 20-30 minutes was the most terrifying time of my life. I think I aged 20 years. There are no words to describe the fear, relief and the gratitude I felt that day.
Both Monkey AND Bug helped me out with it. I was a little worried about letting Bug help me. She is kind of a spaz. But she did really well. I told her she could sit on my lap and help pull out pins as I was sewing. I also bought a jumper that I want to work with Monkey on. I am going to have her help me as much as much as possible from beginning to end.

Anywho... here are the pictures of the project I just finshed
My mom, 4 of my aunts, grandmother, and great grandmother are/were very crafty people. (HA! See what I did there?) My mom made my wedding dress when I got married 9 years ago. And over the years I have had dozens of quilts and clothing items made for myself and my family. I used to tell my mom that I never needed to learn how to sew because she could. If I ever needed anything, I could pay her to do it.

Since then I had the "ON" switch flipped in my head. I have a sewing machine, a Serger, a body mannequin, 2 Styrofoam heads, and more fabric and patterns than I know what to do with at the moment. I have made costumes for friends and simple clothes for Monkey and Bug.

Currently I am working on a cosplay robe for myself. I am not normally one to dress up, but I want to sew more than I do and therefore I started looking up fun and simple costumes. I am working on a White Mage robe from the Final Fantasy Series. It is not any one specific robe from a specific game. It is my own take on the classic. It is a white robe and it will have normal red triangles, but it will be my own.

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/White_Mage

Monkey likes to hang out with me while I am sewing. Most of the time it isnt a big deal. But sometimes I just need my own space. Because Monkey is (almost) 6, I do not let her sew yet by herself. My grandmother bought me a $2000 sewing machine with a bunch of bells and whistles and I am not okay with letting her touch it right now. Monkey is however allowed to touch the pins. Our compromise when she helps me sew is that she can set her hands (gently) on my hands to "help" me guide the fabric, and she can pull the pins out of the fabric and put them on the magnetic pin cushion that I have. She is also not allowed on my lap or near the machines at all when I am using the Serger. I am terrified that she is going to cut her own finger off, cause me to cut my finger off, or cause me to destroy whatever I am working on.

I have told Monkey that I am more than happy to help her learn how to sew, but I want to give it a couple more years. Until then she can keep helping me.
Ours was full of firsts.

This was our first Halloween in this house. This made me a little anxious because it is new territory. Every neighborhood has a "normal" time that they start hitting the streets and knocking on doors. In my old neighborhood it was what I would consider kinda early. Before the sun went down. I wonder if that was because we lived in a kind of ghetto neighborhood and people didn't want to be out much after dark. Just after the sun started to go down we went out to the front yard to try to get a feel for what was going on. There was almost no one on the street. We ended up hanging out and letting the kids play in the yard for a bit before all the other kids started coming out to make the rounds.

This was also the first Halloween that we passed out candy. In the previous 5 years, we would pack up Monkey and Bug and drive down the street to my parents' house. Like I said before, we lived in a not so great neighborhood, and weren't really keen on the idea of going door to door. Needless to say, we weren't home, and therefore we didn't pass out candy. This year I took the kids around as Bear hung out in the front yard with the pumpkins and passed out candy. He said that he was kind of disappointed in the number of kids that came by. We chalked it up to the fact that we kinda live in the corner of our little neighborhood, and the kids probably didn't make the effort to go out of the main area for candy. At the end of the night, we probably got about 25 kids by the house. Not bad, but not great compared to the number of kids that were running around.

This was Bug's first Halloween that she could actually participate in. Last year she was only 15 months old. She was a little ladybug that got pushed around in a stroller all night. This year she was at the front of the line at every house yelling "TRICK TREAT PEASE!"

And finally, this was Monkey's first Halloween after starting school. Just after we left our house, we ended up seeing one of Monkey's friends from school. The two of them decided that they wanted to walk around and trick or treat together. We let Monkey, Bug, and Minnie Mouse (the friend's costume) lead the way while her dad and I kept them on track and moving. Monkey and Minnie we chatty and loud 6 year olds and Bug was more concerned with holding Minnie's hand. If she stopped holding her hand, Bug would run up to her with her hand extended and call out to get her attention. "Minnie! (yes she actually said Minnie and not the girl's real name) Minnie! Hand!" The girl would hold her hand out and walk hand in hand with Bug while talking with Monkey. We also ran into a few other kids that Monkey knew. Little Miss Social would run over to them, hug them, tell them what great costumes they had, tell them bye, and run back over to us.

All in all, this Halloween was really good. We learned a lot about the neighborhood. We saw no aftermath of shenanigans. No toilet papered houses. No smashed pumpkins in the middle of the street. Now that that is over, we have Monkey's 6th birthday in a week and Thanksgiving just a couple weeks after that. Then Christmas, my birthday, and New Year's all lumped up together. It's gonna get busy quick, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I told him that I wanted kids. He said "lets get a puppy instead". So we did. Enter Cami. She was the only girl out of the whole litter of seven or eight puppies that were found abandon in a cardboard box and taken in by the pound. She had huge ears for a very young puppy and they used to flop down over her eyes. She was adorable.

Bear's master plan to put off having kids worked!... for a little bit.

Having a puppy wasn't enough for me. So we got pregnant with Monkey. Now we have a puppy (that Bear occasionally refers to as "failed birth control") and newborn Monkey. We thought that Monkey and Cami would be best friends and grow up together. Six years later, this is not the case.

Monkey likes the dog, but Cami tends to be "aggressively passive". She will live in your personal space bubble unless you force her out. Monkey likes her space.

Bug is the human this dog was meant for. They are two of a kind. Both full of energy, don't listen, and will eat anything. ANYTHING. They chase each other around the house. Cami playfully nips at Bug to get her going again and Bug lays on her and tries to ride on her back. They both have their tolerance thresholds, but they seem to be able to hold each other's attention much longer than anyone else in the family can. It makes for great entertainment watching them run around and wear each other out.

Maybe Bug is half dog and Cami is half Bug? Who knows. All I know is they make each other happy. And even though Cami is/was failed birth control, we all still love her. Most of all her kindred spirit, Bug.
There are lots of reasons to be out and about in costumes. This last Saturday night we went to a church Halloween night with my parents. Bug was supposed to be a lion, but she refused to wear her hoodie with the tail and lion face, and Monkey was a purple flower. Monkey's costume is basically a purple, knee length dress with purple tulle flowers on the bodice, "petals" for the skirt, and green trim.

As we were walking to the car after the festivities were over, I overheard my mom and Monkey talking about her being a flower. My mom had a cup of water and was teasing Monkey that she was going to water her. Monkey was laughing and running away and playing with my mom about it. About a minute later, Monkey was walking in front of me and I couldn't resist. I threw the water that I had on her. She screamed. She cried. I laughed.

She was so upset. She went into insta-drama mode, crying and yelling at me. "Why would you do that?!" "That's not nice!" I told her that she was a flower and that I thought she needed water. Her response was fantastic:

"I'm not a real flower! I don't need to be watered!"

Bear tried to get her to calm down. He tried to explain to her that there was no reason to be so upset. She maintained that it wasn't nice of me to throw water on her and that it was mean of me to surprise her by doing so.

I didn't get her costume wet. She was wearing flip flops, so she didn't have to wear wet shoes or socks. She was dry within a couple minutes.

I knew that by doing that I was going to awaken the drama queen. At least this time I knew what I was doing. It wasn't a random crying fit because of some perceived slight against her. It was totally worth it.

I blame my mom for my sense of humor in torturing my children. She did it to me. I do it to my kids. And I am sure the cycle will continue. I also know that karma comes around, and I am only getting back what I gave my mom. That gives me confidence that one day my kids will find humor in the things from their childhood and not take life too seriously when they have their own kids.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-89357892886385935222012-10-28T08:00:00.000-07:002012-10-28T08:00:00.529-07:00The Social ButterflyMonkey has been in school now for about three months. She has to go to before and after care (like school day care before and after school hours) because of my work schedule and Bear's school schedule. There are kids in every grade from Kindergarten to at least 5th grade that are in before/after care. I like the idea of them all being in a social setting together because it is helping Monkey learn how to deal with kids a varying ages. She always comes home with stories about her friends and what they did before or after school.

This past Friday night, we went to her school for Fall Festival (also mentioned here). I dread social settings where I don't know anyone. I feel out of place and like I am forcing myself on someone if I do try to talk to them. This was important to Monkey though, so we went.

As we walked in the gate, Monkey was already yelling "HI!" to one of her friends. It seemed like every two minutes she was running off to be social with someone. The amusing thing was it wasn't just an "oh hey, ok bye" thing. She would walk up to them and say "Hi, *name*!" and give them the biggest smile and hug that should could come up with. She would tell them something she liked about them (ie: i really like your costume) or tell them how happy she was to see them. She would then introduce Bug to them, give them another big hug and run back to us to continue on with whatever we were doing.

On one hand I have major anxiety watching her run off and talk to everyone. On the other hand, I am happy that she is confident enough start branching away and becoming her own person. Her teacher mentioned to us that she is generally a popular kid. That she always has at least 4 or 5 kids around her at recess and that the kids all love her. I can only imagine what will happen in the future. I wish what every parent does of course, I just want her to be happy.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-5301151649927769022012-10-27T21:21:00.000-07:002012-10-27T21:21:59.727-07:00Love BugBug makes me crazy most of the time. But I know deep down underneath the tantrums and the trouble is one of the sweetest kids I know. In the last two nights she has shown me two different examples of her compassion for other people.

Friday night we went to Monkey's school for the Fall Festival. There were games, food, silent auctions, face painting, and even a petting zoo. We got tickets and went on in. One of the first things the girls wanted to do was get their faces painted. Monkey got a pink sparkly heart and Bug got a sparkly blue heart.
As we walked away from getting their faces painted, I was carrying her while we figured out what to do next. Bug looked at my face and said "Heart mom?" I told her that I didn't get one. She just said "Oh" and put her head down on my shoulder. After a few seconds, she lifted her head back up and the following conversation occurred..

Bug: There mom!

Me: What where?

Bug: *wipes her cheek on my shoulder* There go mom!

Me: Whats that?

Bug: Heart you mom! *big grin*

Me: Oh thank you baby! Thats very nice of you to share your face heart with me.

Bug: Uh huh! I love you mom!

She then gave me kisses and we continued about the night.

Tonight (Saturday) we went to my parents' church for trick or treating, games, and some AMAZING chili. After everyone was done eating, it was time for Trunk-Or-Treat time. For those of you that don't know, Trunk or treat is trick or treat around the parking lot. People decorate their cars and set up games. It is very fun and easily controlled.

Anywho... back to the story...

Monkey and Bug were going around to each stop with big smiles and lots of "trick or treat"s and "thank you"s. We got to one car and Bug got to the front first. She said her cute little two year old "trick or treat!" and grabbed two pieces of candy instead of the one that she was supposed to take. I started to correct her and tell her to take only one, but I stopped myself. She turned around to Monkey and dropped one of the candies in her bucket, and took the other one for herself. Then she said "Ok lets go!" and the two of them ran off together to the next stop.

I have to say that I am very proud of her and her love for other people. I hope that she stays as considerate and loving when she gets older.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-73722160085305258752012-10-22T20:38:00.001-07:002012-10-22T20:38:08.172-07:00Stink Baby

Bug is very particular about the stuff that goes in the car with us in the morning. Cup and blankie are the every day items. Shoes and toys are optional and vary. Today it was her cabbage patch doll.

Getting to the sitter takes about half an hour. About ten minutes out Bug proudly proclaims from the back seat "Diaper, Mom! Poop!"

Really?! I am not looking forward to dealing with a poopy diaper and rush hour traffic.

Me: Ok Bug. I'll change it in a little bit.
Bug: Ok Mom. I do it.
Me: Uhm... just wait.
Bug: I did it mom! Baby stink diaper done. I change it!

Oh! I Get it! I am so glad that "Baby" had a dirty super and not Bug. The rest of the way to the sitter and most of the way home, Bug talked about changing the baby.

Very cute and mature. She is definitely my lovey kid. Bonus: she's never stingy with the hugs and kisses.

Crying and loud banging noises, shattering glass or pouring liquid. However, the biggest warning sign of all is silence.

Despite the saying, Silence is NOT golden.

Everyone in the house was doing their own thing. I was sewing. Bear was reading. Monkey was watching TV. Bug was.... uhm.... unaccounted for. She wasn't making any noise. She was not watching TV. Bear and I had the parental spidey sense at the same time. As I went walking down the hall to find our wonderful Bug, I heard Bear already talking to her. He beat me to it by about 10 seconds. But we found her.

She was washing her hands. And brushing her teeth. And brushing her hair. She wasn't using soap, toothpaste, or gel. She was using a tube of diaper rash cream. For all three things.

Her hands and the counter were covered in a moderate layer of the cream. We could not even see her skin. She had clumps and smears of cream on and around her mouth. And finally, she had her hair smeared straight up like Sonic the Hedgehog. I grabbed her up and swooped her away to the shower.

The shower was a pain all by its self. Diaper rash cream is water resistant. Lots of real soap. Lots of scrubbing with a hand towel, and still she came out of the shower a bit greasy.

I think I need to have my parent radar updated. It was a little slow on the pick up of the shenanigans of Bug.Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-72716170313460571852012-10-18T08:00:00.000-07:002012-10-18T08:00:01.360-07:00Doing Homework

Bear recently lost his job. It has been a mixed blessing. On the upside it has given him the opportunity to go back to school. He can be a full time student and a part time stay at home dad. He is currently taking an art class. One of the projects he had to do was draw a picture that told a story. He chose to do a simple picture depicting trees and the changing of the seasons.

Monkey likes to do homework. She told Bear that she would help him do his homework. He politely declined. Because he has to turn this in for a grade, he didn't want Monkey messing with it. She asked again and said "but, I'm really good at coloring, Poppa." He again declined and this time told her that she couldn't help because his teacher wouldn't like it if someone else did his homeowork for him. She understood this and didn't ask again. Bear did draw up some circles for her to draw pictures in though. They sat at the table and drew and colored together.

We had stopped off at the store to pick up a few things. One of the thinkgs that we got was a lion costume for Bug. It is a yellow pair of furry pants with a tail, and a puffy hoodie jacket. The hoodie has a lions face on the hood, and white on the chest/stomach area. So when she puts the pants on and zips up the hoodie, she looks like a little lion.

After we left the store, Bug was sitting in the back seat making lion noises. "RAWR!" This led into a round of "What sound does _____ make?" We ran through the usual suspects: cats, cows, chickens, roosters, dogs, lions, birds, and even fish. Then it got fun.

Me: "Bug, what sound do you make?"

Bug: "RAWR!"

Me: "What sound does Monkey (my daughter not the animal) make?"

Monkey: "Eeh Eeh Aah Aah!" (or however you spell the noise a real monkey makes)

Me: "What sound does Poppa (Bear) make?"

Bug: "Dinner!"

Me: "Poppa makes dinner?"

Bug: "Yup! At house! I hungee!"

Me: "What sound do I make?"

Bug: "No, Momma. No noise."

Monkey: "Tweet tweet!" (I'm Bird)

Monkey: "I'm done playing this game now mom, whats for dinner?"

Our conversation then moved on to dinner, chores, and what happened at daycare. My two year old helped me learn something new. Poppa makes the noise "Dinner!"Momma Iviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09463601927826441370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-407465180024864511.post-8922503746593889852012-10-14T11:30:00.000-07:002012-10-14T11:30:09.936-07:00A Whole Different Kid

I like to keep my hair short. Usually it is just a bit longer than than the bottom of my ears. Monkey's hair has always been very long. We have trimmed the ends a few times but nothing more than an inch or so. Yesterday all of that changed.

I have been trying to grow my hair out. Haven't even trimmed it in about seven months. I have just come to terms with the fact that I just like short hair better. I decided it was time for a hair cut. I thought it would be good for Monkey to get her hair trimmed too.

When we got to the salon/shop whatever you want to call it Monkey said she knew what haircut she wanted. She wanted short like me. That was way too short for my comfort. I suggested we just trim it. That was denied instantly. As we looked through the haircut books we came to a compromise. Shoulder length with bangs.

I was worried that she would regret such a drastic change. My worries were quickly squashed. As the stylist cut her hair, Monkey stole glances in the mirror. Only on Christmas Day have I ever seen her so lit up and happy. She made her first big girl decision and she loved the outcome. I got a bit teary eyed at the milestone moment.

My Monkey looks like a totally different kid now. It is crazy how much of a difference a haircut makes.
